Today is the first of September, officially the start of Autumn. This day always summons mixed emotions. The excitement of the ‘back to school vibe’ where we think ahead and assess a new focus for the cooler months, mixed with the dread of the dark mornings and nights, the cold winds and other limiting weather patterns we experience here in the UK.
We want to encourage the feelings of a fresh start, a clean slate and a chance to use the beautiful Autumn months to the best of their advantage. There is as much fun to be had despite the cooling temperatures and the lack of daylight hours. Here are a few pointers that will help you to seize the Autumn and embrace it!
Run Through The Leaves
Whilst running’s popularity soars in the Summer months, it’s true to say that there is something really satifisfying about heading outside in cooler temperatures when the sun isn’t searing you like a cracked egg on a car bonnet. Picking a route with lots of trees is inspiring as you can watch as the colours change gradually on each run until we make room for the arrival of Winter. Kicking through the leaves on the ground will also summon the child in you so get your trainers on and get out there!
Focus Through Yoga
As mentioned, Autumn is associated with periods of change. From childhood, we have grown up knowing that this time of year signals the start of a new level of education, whether that be school, college or universtity and with it brings a chance to start a new, more challenging curriculum. As adults, it’s the end of a summer and a look ahead to projects new. If you’re unsure as to what those projects or goals are, yoga is a fantastic way of quietening your mind so that you can regain that focus that might have got lost in the noise of this modern world. If you fancy a taster of yoga to see what it has to offer, Lululemon are kicking off their European Yoga tour in London on Sunday 6th September for a yoga practice “like no other” for those in the mood for a fun yoga-centric activity to introduce you to it’s principles and benefits.
Invest In New Kit
One way to get into a new season is to treat yourself to a refreshed new look. For a start, you’ll need different gear for the change in weather, probably more of the waterproof varity if training outside. Shorts may get replaced with longer leggings and running tops for longer sleeves for a revamped and fresh look to your kit wardrobe. See a few of our Autumn favourites this season below to give you an idea!
Last But Not Least, Enjoy It!
It is easy to mourn the passing of Summer and dread the Autumn and ultimately the Winter after it but try and put the SAD at bay and see the good things about the change of season. Change is great, a good opportunity to grow and discover new things. Write a list of goals, whether for fitness, personal life, career and see if you can conquer a few by the end of Autumn!
