Bradley Simmonds on: Staying Motivated Over Winter
A lot of people tend to go for comfort food as soon as the temperature drops: big pasta bakes, shepherd’s pies, that sort of thing. It’s all about finding healthy alternatives over the winter, such as switching starchy potatoes for sweet potato, or sugar-laden hot chocolate for green tea. Find a friend who will do the same and you’ll keep each other on track – it’ll help with your willpower!
Bradley Simmonds on: Training
Bodyweight training is so good because you can do it anywhere with no equipment. HIIT (high intensity interval training) is really effective, and it only takes 30 minutes, so I’m a real advocate of it. I’m also sometimes known as the ‘TRX King’ because I think TRXes are great pieces of kit that are so versatile and accessible! Here are my Top 5 Moves to try on a TRX:
1. Deep squat
2. Jumping squat
3. One foot in TRX and lunge
4. Both feet in – press ups
5. Knee tucks
Bradley Simmonds on: Stress
Everyone in the UK seems pretty stressed out at the moment, and it has such a huge impact on your health. If you have a busy lifestyle then you need exercise more than anyone as it’s a massive stress reliever – it helps with anxiety, boosts confidence, gives you more energy and makes you more positive. And don’t we all prefer being around positive people? If you’re one of those people who doesn’t think they have time to exercise, set your alarm half an hour early as exercising in the mornings gives you a more positive mindset for the whole day. My motto is: stop pressing the snooze button! Get up, cycle to the gym, and get the exercise in!
Bradley Simmonds on: Clean Eating
Nutrition is really important to me with my job but advocating that healthy food isn’t boring is also a big part of what I do. When I was a footballer training for 3 hours a day I could eat pretty much what I liked – but knowing what I do now about bad fats and sugar, I wouldn’t go back to that way of eating. Balance is important but good nutrition just can’t be exercised out!
Bradley Simmonds on: Training for Looks
A lot of people train purely for aesthetics which is fine, but I tend to work from the fitness side of things. If you start to feel fitter, you will look better – that’s the side effect of training and eating well. Ultimately being fit is as important – if not moreso – than looking good, so up your training, clean up your diet and watch the compliments on your looks roll in!
My ideal training session would be…boxing and yoga on a beach in Bali, with a combination of David Beckham, Michelle Keegan and a Victoria’s Secret model or two for good measure! That would be a good day at the office!
