Inspired by wellbeing and focusing on the current sports luxe trend, our exclusive feature this month showcases the John Lewis Athletic Accents Edit – introducing athletic influences into your everyday wardrobe.
January is traditionally a period of new year’s resolutions and transformation. Arguably there is nothing more important than good health, so what better resolution could there be than addressing your health and taking on this challenge wearing the correct kit.
Using the best fitness equipment for you is essential as it will not only make you feel more comfortable, but will also assist your goals and make it more likely you will reach your target.
John Lewis has styled two outfits, providing you with two options – a more casual ‘activewear‘ outfit and a higher performance ‘sportswear‘ outfit.
Activewear (Fashion and comfort)
Embrace a laid-back look in activewear with a fashion twist – think colour-block brights or graphic prints with a casual finish. This outfit is perfect for the on-the-go woman with an active lifestyle.
Opt for tailored trousers with go-faster stripes for a dressed-up version of the trend
Sportswear (High performance, style and function)
Transform your sports attire with an insulating jacket or hooded anorak – performance fabrics are a must. This outfit is perfect for the active woman who wants technical clothing and footwear to help her reach her goals.

3 key tips for updating your workout clothes
Select by activity / sport – the type of exercise you are undertaking will have a big influence over your apparel and footwear. For example, you might want to wear more tightly fitted, compression clothing for cycling to keep it away from your equipment. Whilst for yoga, looser, more relaxed clothing might be more appropriate. Whether your activity is indoors or outdoors will also have implications over the fabric and protection of your clothing.
Select by season – seasonal changes have to be taken into consideration when buying exercise clothes and equipment. A hot summer day requires a different set of gear than a run in cold winter weather. Going out for a run in the summer is easy – just put on your shorts and a t-shirt and head on out! In the winter, you will need to think about layering and waterproof clothing. If you are outside, you might also need footwear with more grip.
Don’t forget your sports bra – whatever sport or fitness you’re doing, whatever size you are – wearing the right sports bra is critical to both your health and performance. Innovation and technology has improved sports bras immeasurably over recent years and there are now a larger number of options depending on your size and requirements.
