Last week Lorna and Lucy tried out Sweaty Betty’s Get Fit 4 Free Rumble class designed by London’s awesome gym 1Rebel and led by Mila Lazar. The class is an hour long and part of the free workouts that Sweaty Betty are lauching on the 26th January. The Rumble class combines a series of challenging sequences that are all based on boxing moves. Lucy describes her experience in this high-octane knock-out session.

Even being a personal trainer, it’s not often I get the opportunity to punch and kick as hard as I can alongside a selection of the UK’s best fitness bloggers, so this workout is one I was really looking forward to. Having only tried out the Reshape class at 1Rebel I was keen to see what they’d done with boxing: they’re renowned for their innovative and fun approach to training, so I was pretty sure we’d all be leaving the class with smiles on our (sweaty) faces.
Let’s be clear from the start: this is one class that does not disappoint. Dressed in my Zero Gravity Tights and Yama Yoga Bra and fresh from a day of running – and running between meetings – I was ready for a sweaty session. Instructor Mila Lazar was the perfect blend of upbeat and understanding, encouraging and energetic. With the lights turned down low and the music turned up to the max, we began: kicking, punching, using nearly every muscle in our bodies, working our way through a sequence of boxing, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and cardiovascular moves that required so much concentration it was easy to forget how hard we were working! Rumble really gets your whole body working too: instructor Mila was great at taking us through the basics of a move – such as a roundhouse kick – and gradually scaling it up to include hooks and jabs. We even got to do some burpees in between our punches, so I was certainly happy!
I’d recommend this class if you enjoy high intensity (HIT) training and have a good awareness of your body and posture. If you tend to round your back a lot or relax your core too easily, you may want to invest in some personal training sessions to work on your core strength before tackling Rumble. I’d also highly recommend getting yourself a pair of Zero Gravity Tights – these leggings are ridiculously comfortable and flattering, have a perfect back zip pocket for your phone and keys, and are my favourite leggings to train in by a long shot.
You’ll need to be quick off the mark to book your class, (which you can do online here) or if there isn’t a store near you, you can view the whole workout online here. I also recommend the 1, 2, 3 Stretch With Yogi Charlie (on the same page) for opening up the hip flexors and stretching out after HITs, running, or weight training.
