We’ve arrived: it’s Wimbledon Final time once more. The 2015 Ladies’ Champion will be either Serena Williams or Garbine Muguruza; both aggressive players on court with big serves and powerful athleticism. So, who will win? Ex-British Number One and SportStylist Expert Anne Keothavong shares what you need to know about these two incredible players, and what you can do to up your own tennis game.
Having seen her narrow win over Heather Watson last week, we all know how much Serena likes to dominate and attack any match she takes on. She is comfortable at Wimbledon, having won it five times to date; her unending ability to serve big, stay light on her feet and maintain composure whatever is thrown at her put her as the favourite for this year’s Wimbledon title. If she were to win, it would be her 21st Grand Slam title and would make her, at 33, the oldest winner of a major tennis title in the ‘Open Era’.
Garbine has something Heather Watson didn’t: the knowledge that she has defeated Williams once before. She beat Williams in two sets in the 2014 French Open, and this could make a huge difference to her mental approach to the match. At just 21 this is her first Grand Slam final, but Serena doesn’t think that will faze her at all. Garbine is equally fearless on court and has tremendous power off the ground. As long as she can stay mentally focused she will be a tough opponent for Serena – it has all the makings of a fast-paced, full on final, that’s for sure!
