Christmas is all about eating, over indulging and not really having an excuse……IT’S GREAT, right? She says eating a tub of pineapple to undo the guilt of having a diet coke with lunch instead of water :/
As the saying goes “summer bodies are made in the winter”, so with that in mind, I am here to give you some tips about how to stay on the training band wagon over the festive season!
Balance Your Diet
I can be found eating my advent calendar chocolates for breakfast, Christmas cake for lunch, then having something substantial for dinner closely followed by cheese and biscuits as an evening snack, #guilty! But we all know this is not ideal, and this is a silly over indulging tactic. Just be mindful of your daily diet, make sure you have clean non processed meals so that you can treat yourself to sweeter snacks in between.
Think about what you have planned for the year ahead. That might be a holiday, a party, a special birthday, a wedding etc. How do you want to feel for that occasion? I’m pretty sure you want to feel a million bucks. Even if you don’t have anything planned yet, that’s ok, I don’t either, but one of my New Year’s resolutions is to stay fit and healthy. When I find myself cracking open the second box of twiglets or cheeslets, I’ll hope that my motivation will win over a split second of absolute food heaven!
It depends how dedicated you are, if you’re a 7 day a week gym-go-getter I take my hat off to you and I’m sure you won’t be needing my tips. If you’re like me and want to look like a Victoria Secret’s model by the time it gets to summer, but you also really love the festivities and putting on the gym gear is a bit of a struggle, I’m going to advise you to start small.
Do a 15 minute Body Coach HIIT workout, you will defo feel the burn and you will feel your heart rate pumping after this kind of workout. If you need the physical act of going to a gym, maybe do a 45 minute session of cardio, weights and core. If neither of these options work, maybe do a gym class or grab a couple of friends and workout with them, that way you can catch up over the festivities and still get that burst of fitness in at the same time.
What really gets me in the zone is a cracking playlist. When I run on the treadmill I like a heavy bass and something I can run in time with. My running playlist consists of Kanye West: Black Skinhead and Power, Beyonce: Freedom and Dizzee Rascal: Hype. Spotify has multiple workout playlists such as, weight training, cardio, spinning etc. Update your music library and get started on your 2017 body.
For the fitness bunny, gym gear always makes its way onto a gift list, and if you’re lucky enough, Santa might have surprised you with some this year. Sliding into a fresh pair of sneakers, or pulling on a new pair of leggings is always an incentive in itself.
Just do everything in moderation, if you plan on going to the gym but wake up and don’t feel the urge to workout, don’t force yourself. There is nothing worse than pushing yourself into the gym when you don’t want to and end up doing a half-hearted session. Treat yourself to some Ferrero Rocher’s but when you realise the whole contents of the tray is in your stomach, it’s probably time do to some star jumps 🙂
