Or perhaps you are actually thinking ‘What are skeggings?’
Then let me take a step back. Skeggings, also know as skapris, are simply leggings (or capris) with a skirt on top. Female tennis players are often seen wearing leggings when training, but not many wear them for matches. Instead, when playing matches in the evening, or in colder climates, they will often wear leggings underneath their standard tennis dress or skirt.
Although you can easily mix and match your tennis skirts with leggings, as I have recently begun to do in preparation for my winter tennis wardrobe, buying a pair of skeggings that are sold as a single piece ensures that the colour, material and pattern of your skirt and leggings match perfectly.
I must admit that when I first came across this item of clothing I did wonder why the skirt was necessary. Why not just wear leggings and a top? Having thought about this a bit more, I can now see the many advantages that the skirt offers. For example, you may not feel particularly confident wearing just leggings, especially given the problems that leggings can have with transparency. With all the stretching and crouching that goes on in tennis, not having to worry about your underwear being on show is certainly a plus! Also, I personally really like the look of a tennis skirt, and so the addition of leggings will mean I won’t have to stop wearing skirts now that the weather is getting colder. And even if you don’t play tennis, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t run or practice yoga in them – you might find that you actually feel more comfortable.
So have I convinced you to wear skeggings? If so, get your hands on this stylish pair from NikeCourt:
